In April 2015, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) established the Wadden Systems Research Centre (WSRC). The website supplies easy access to those who would like to make use of the expert teams, equipment, technology and protocols as developed for a variety of tidal environments. The centre is also responsible for running a dataportal, which supplies internationally standardised and open access to more than 10.000 data sets on long-term field observations in coastal seas. International courses and training in the theory and practice of research in wadden systems are presently developed.

Passive fish trap of NIOZ, located at the westernmost tidal inlet of the World Heritage Wadden Sea, where long-term field observations (1965-2005) on fish communities revealed a tenfold decrease in the catch (kg fresh-weight) per day from the 1980s onwards.
