The project „Flora of Bavaria – Data management DWB and concept development Flora“ started in August, 2016.

The two-year project is based on the results of a preceding project and will – at the end – give online access to more than 6 mio historical and recent occurrence data of vascular plants in Bavaria. One of the achievements will be the optimization of the infrastructure for this presence and observation data, partly already mobilised in the preceding project. Data from more than 4.000 species will be organised for long-term archiving and to be appropriate for the publication of a flora. The datasets managed in the Diversity Workbench will be expanded and new data packages, including data of the statewide biotope monitoring project of the LfU will be integrated. The taxon reference list will be routinuously updated.

New mechanisms for effective data curation and quality control will be implemented and the technical infrastructure (server, database engines) at the SNSB IT Center will be extended. The improvement of the data flow starting with data gathering in the field by volunteer experts and engaged citizen scientists followed by the data processing at the SNSB IT Center and the final provision of information to  scientific online portals and information systems is one of the core tasks. Curatorial assistance by volunteer experts is highly welcome and will be supported in workshops (Upcoming Wokrshop on 25.10.2016). The workflow includes the data transfer from the Diversity Workbench management system into the Fachinformationssystem Naturschutz. All work is done in close collaboration between the project partners and participating stakeholders.
