GEO BON is delighted to announce at COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia a new partnership with the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
GBIF’s global network of nodes and publishers mobilizes and shares biodiversity data through common standards and open infrastructure. GEO BON advances coordinated biodiversity observations, the Essential Biodiversity Variables framework, and tools to support monitoring and indicator development. Together, the networks can strengthen the connections between data availability, scientific analysis and policy needs.
GBIF and GEO BON connect biodiversity observations to decision, this partnership marks a commitment to strengthen that connection. GBIF’s nodes and publishers help mobilize, standardize and share biodiversity data, while GEO BON’s observation networks, scientific frameworks and tools help turn observations into monitoring products and indicators. The collaboration is also cyclical, where monitoring needs reveal gaps that can guide future data collection and mobilization.
