GEO BON with its scientific partners introduces a set of global indicators integrating biodiversity observations, remote sensing data, and models to address important gaps in our understanding of biodiversity change across local, national and global spatial scales (GEO BON 2015). These indicators are based on biodiversity observations, harmonized across multiple data sources and standardized, to allow for a consistent monitoring basis.

These indicators follow GEO data sharing principles and have the long-term commitment of established research institutions. The following indicators developed by the GEO BON network may be used for assessing and reporting on national progress towards global biodiversity goals and targets.
