The Secretariat of the Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON) and the bioDISCOVERY programme of Future Earth have convened a group of international experts to prepare a series of science briefs to provide scientific support for the negotiations of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework at the fourth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (WG2020-4) held in Nairobi, Kenya (21-26 June 2022). This work was preceded by an information document (“Expert input to the post-2020 global biodiversity framework: transformative actions on all drivers of biodiversity loss are urgently required to achieve the global goals by 2050”; CBD/SBSTTA/24/INF/31) prepared for the concurrent meetings WG2020-03, SBSTTA24 and SBI3 held in Geneva, Switzerland, 14-29 March 2022. A shorter version of the document has been published in One Earth (Leadley et al. 2022, DOI:10.1016/j.oneear.2022.05.009).

The set of briefs published in June 2022 were compiled in an information documents for WG2020-04 (CBD/WG2020/4/INF/2/Rev.2) and a briefing note for the expert workshop on the monitoring framework held in Bonn, Germany (29 June – 1 July 2022) (CBD/ID/OM/2022/1/INF/2).

GEO BON and its members compiled additional science briefs to support the implementation of the post-2020 GBF:
