GEO BON took part in the Asia-Pacific GEOSS and the AP-Biodiversity Observation Network meetings in Beijing. The Asia-Pacific-Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON) is the largest of GEO BON’s regional BONs and brings together a number of dedicated organisations, experts and scientist in that large region. Biodiversity assessment and monitoring efforts are developing fast in the region. China has set up a huge biodiversity observation site network, India has invested 400 man-years in vegetation mapping recently and several other countries work on high scientific levels. It was a pleasure to be in Beijing and see the tremendous progress of AP-BON.
