The GEO Data Technology Workshop gathered >140 experts from more than 110 organizations to share knowledge and best practices in the management and use of Earth observations and to contribute the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). The meeting attended by Laetitia Navarro and Christian Langer on behalf of GEO BON was hosted in Vienna by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs from 23-25 April 2019.
The event provided a space to share experiences and knowledge for the management, communication, dissemination and use of earth observation data and participants further discussed how to best make this data available for international policy frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Paris Climate Agreement.
This year’s edition of the workshop was dedicated to “The era of Big EO Data” and has expanded to include data providers, data users and technology experts to keep up with the fast data and technological development. Laetitia Navarro presented the data and information needs and challenges for GEO BON, one of the flagships of the GEO Work Program (Download full presentation as PDF). The discussion also addressed how the data infrastructures of the GEO Flagships could benefit from the GEOSS Knowledge Hub in future.
Photos, presentations and recordings are available on the GEO Event website.
