Colombia’s Alexander von Humboldt Institute is leading the development of a national Biodiversity Observation Network for Colombia with GEO BON’s assistance.  This process involves both data collectors and data users working together as a team to identify key observation network objectives and design an observation network that meets those needs through targeted and harmonized biodiversity observations across the country.

Maria Cecilia Londoño (Program Coordinator for Biodiversity Observation and Evaluation at the Humboldt Institute) organized and hosted the latest workshop on July 27th and 28th in Bogota, Colombia bringing together national and sub-national agency representatives to identify conceptual models that will guide biodiversity variable selection for the observation system.  GEO BON’s Vice-Chair, Mike Gill attended to ensure a close connection with GEO BON’s EBV development and process for establishing and endorsing Biodiversity Observation Networks.
